Fertilize in March, June and October with palm fertilizer to encourage deeper rooting. Turn the irrigation off in early June, and the shrubs should be adapted by mid-October. The time to adapt the plants to grow without irrigation would be over the summer wet season. Plants get used to an irrigation schedule and adapt to it. The stems were still green so the plants should be OK with regular irrigation twice a week. We had brown leaves but fortunately caught it in time.
